Ben Berger is a 2023 LHP/1B, OF with a 5-11 175 lb. frame from Olney, MD who attends Sherwood. Recorded a 7.78-second sixty-yard time. Durable, compact build with some present strength in his lower half. Left-handed pitcher, worked with a simple operation that he repeated well. Remains balanced with a belt-high leg lift with good lower half incorporation as he drives down the mound. Clean arm action from a high 3/4 arm slot, tunneled repertoire extremely well during his outing. Showcased advanced pitch-ability landed fastball, curveball, and change-up for strikes, mixing speed, and keeping hitters off balance. Worked fastball up to 81 mph, sitting in the 78-80 mph range, with downhill action, working it on both sides of the plate well. Stayed on top of his curveball well as it showed 1-7 shape with short break, generating swing-and-missed with it. Change-up may be his best offspeed pitch as he was used it against right-handed hitters often, pitch showed late fading action, keeping it on the outer half of the plate. Secondary first baseman, fielded out in front with feel for actions around the bag. Accurate throws to the bases, up to 70 mph. Could improve foot speed and mobility around the bag for quicker athletic actions. Also took reps in the outfield, fields off his front foot, carrying his momentum through his throws well. Online, accurate throws to the bases, up to 72 mph. Switch-hitter, looking better from the right-side. Sets up with a slightly open stance and a high-hand set. Line-drive swing with a middle of the field approach from the right-side, flashing some power potential to the pull side. Worked to the pull side more from the left-side with a lofted stroke, continuing to develop feel for the barrel from this side. Certainly projects more on the mound with his advanced pitch-ability, velocity will continue to tick up as he adds more strength throughout his frame. Good student. Named to 2021 Fall East Coast Top Prospect List.
