Sam Crowthers is a 2018 RHP/3B, OF with a 5-10 180 lb. frame from Tampa, FL who attends Wharton HS. Medium frame with a solid, athletic build. Projects for additional strength with continue physical development. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to leg lift delivery. Stays balanced on back side at gather and utilizes lower half while driving to the plate. Front side lands in line with the plate and carries momentum through finish well. Creates an extended arm circle at separation and releases from a high three-quarters arm slot. Fastball flashed good riding life with occasional running action in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 79 mph. Curveball shows 10/4 shape with good depth and sharp, late break at times. Showed best rotation and depth when maintaining arm speed through finish. Consistently filled the strike zone with both pitches effectively keeping hitters off balance and inducing weak contact. Right handed hitter with an upright, balanced stance. Creates some front side coil and wrap at load. Hands launch on a compact path to contact. Barrel enters and exits the zone quickly on a line drive plane. Primarily worked the middle of the field but flashed to ability to work the baseball the other way as well. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and mechanical refinement.
