2017 PG Top Prospect Games at TCU
Christopher Benavides is a 2019 SS/RHP with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Spring, TX who attends Klein Collins High School. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and long limbs, projectable build with present strength and added room to fill. Primary shortstop, stays low moving to and through the ball with bounce to his step, fields the ball out front and hands play at the ball well, loose and light actions, ball comes out of hand well from multiple slots, sound footwork and gets behind the ball well. Also pitched, worked exclusively out of the stretch with a high leg lift and hip turn at top of delivery. Simple delivery and release with an easy arm action and a mid three-quarters release point; fastball topped out at 89 mph and leaves the hand cleanly with plane and late heavy life. Slider offers late bite up to 78 mph with 10-4 shape and tilt through the zone. Righthanded hitter, begins with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate and a slightly open stance. Full swing path through the zone with a loose swing and quickness to hands. Does a nice job of getting closed prior to contact, line drive swing plane through the zone with steady contact to pull side, shows a handle for the barrel with present bat speed.
