Justin Cervi is a 2019 LHP/OF, 1B with a 5-9 160 lb. frame from San Diego, CA who attends Serra. Compact frame with a lean build. Frame projects to support additional size with strength. Primary left handed pitcher with a simple, repeatable leg lift delivery. Hides the baseball well at take back prior to working to the plate with a long, loose arm stroke. Released from a three-quarters slot generating some crossfire with a running fastball that sat in the upper 60's. Flashed solid feel for fastball and consistently worked down in the zone to each edge of the plate. Curveball showed varying shape do to ability to manipulate depth and spin. Consistently kept hitters off balance with offering and repeatedly pounded the strike zone. Really showed a good knowledge for pitching and induced weak contact throughout each inning of work. Also worked out defensively from first base showing occasional fluidity while funneling the baseball from a slightly deeper position. Centers the baseball well with deliberate footwork. Released from a mid three-quarters arm slot producing soft, on line carry to the bag. Left handed hitter with an upright, open stance and simple leg lift trigger. Stays on back side throughout swing with rotational lower half actions. Direct hand path to contact with a naturally lifted plane through extension. Flashed some feel for the barrel while primarily utilizing a mid field approach. Projects for additional bat speed and strength in swing with continued implementation of lower half. Very good student as well.
