Gunther Braendel is a 2022 RHP/OF with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from Bradenton, FL who attends IMG Academy. Large, athletic frame with broadness to shoulders and present physical strength proportioned throughout. Primary righthanded pitcher, smooth and deliberate delivery, easy operation with a leg lift up past belt, slight hip turn at top; works to an extended three-quarters release point with a shorter arm action in the back. Fastball topped out at 87 mph, can continue to incorporate additional lower half into drive, creates short life on fastball when down in the zone. Curveball shows depth to it at 72 mph, utilized a slider as a chase pitch down in the zone. Pitches to contact and mixed well, flashed a changeup with fading life at 77 mph. Fields the ball out front in the outfield, upright release with a short stride through the ball, extra step through release, actions will continue to develop. Righthanded hitter, begins with an even stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; upper body dominant swing, shorter to the ball, gets rotational at times with a linear path through the zone, gets the barrel to the ball well.
