Clay Tyas is a 2021 RHP/MIF with a 6-0 165 lb. frame from Gainesville, GA who attends Chestatee. Athletic and wiry body that will fill out well without having to bulk. A 2-way player. Primary infielder with good balance throughout his approach and showed the instincts to take well timed angles. Deliberate in his transfer and with his throws, staying mechanically sound throughout. The throws had some carry and peaked at 84 across the diamond. A right-handed hitter using a narrow base and slightly open. Used a flat path that stayed in the zone well, looks to hit line drives to the middle. Solid bat speed with some growth still as strength is added. The right-handed pitcher has a simple delivery he repeats well. Easy leg lift and moved well in line. Full arm swing with a with a high 3/4 release and got good extension to the plate. Athletic on the mound with feel for his overall repertoire. Showed two breaking balls, an 11/5 curveball that he threw early and landed well to the glove side and a more horizontal slider that he used late for swing and misses. Both have good shape and showed depth. Flashed a changeup that mimicked his fastball well but didn't need it as he located well and forced weak contact. Very good athlete with a nice jump in his operation. Good student.
