2005 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Daniel Garcia is a 2008 SS/P from Thornwood HS in Harvey, IL, with a 5'9'', 160 lb. frame. He has some present strength for his size and some one spot quickness. He showed good actions in the infield and solid on-line arm strength. He is a 7.97 runner in the 60. Garcia's overall actions, build and tools as a position player profile best at catcher in the future, although he looks like a solid infielder at his present level. Garcia hits out of a very open stance and never gets closed. He has some bat speed and a line drive swing plane and is strong enough to drive the ball out in gaps, especially to right center field. He has some promising looking hitting tools for a young player that can be improved with time. Garcia also pitched and showed some prospect ability on the mound. He has a fast paced delivery and pitches very aggressively while challenging hitters. Garcia's fastball was 80-82 and his two secondary pitches were quality offerings. Garcia's 73 mph slider had nice tilt to it and he maintained his arm speed well on a 71 mph change up. His approach to pitching and three quality pitches are going to make him very effective on the mound. Overall, Garcia has a interesting variety of tools and skills and should be followed closely. He is also a very good student.
