Thomas Smythe is a 2020 MIF/OF with a 5-10 155 lb. frame from Rancho Palos Verdes, CA who attends Loyola HS. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.20 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, moves well on feet and comes through the ball, shows comfort in actions going to the backhand, shows quickness to arm and gets on top of throws nicely, has strength and ability to complete play off back leg; accurate throws across the diamond. Righthanded hitter, begin with an even stance and a high hand set in the box. Stays short to the ball with swing path and keeps hands inside throughout, stays linear through the zone and creates line drive contact. Utilizes a short leg lift trigger for timing in the box, occasionally gets to front side early with weight shift. Swings with intent and works the middle of the field with a contact oriented approach while finding the barrel. Very good student.
