Cameron Rupp is a 2007 right hand hitting catcher from Prestonwood HS, residing in Plano, TX. Rupp is one of the more physically imposing players in the '07 high school draft class. He is very powerfully built and has long arms to go with that strong upper body. Just standing at homeplate he resembles Cubs catcher Michael Barrett, who is one mountain of a man. Rupp is by no means only a big and strong 6'2" 220 lbs., he is quite athletic and pretty flexible and fluid. Rupp did some things that continually stopped the chatter in the stands and was ultimately ranked #10 among PG National Top 100 position players, while also earning a selection as an Aflac All-American. If scouts are looking for a catcher with power in the bat and a power arm, then Rupp is at the top of the list. His raw power is perhaps the top of any player in the '07 high school class and it not only shows up quite loudly in a BP session, but Rubb hits with power in games too. That power plays to all fields. His swing is quite easy and he keeps his hands inside the ball well. It is terrifying to consider him with a metal bat. Rupp looks like he will be entrenched in the four/five hole for the rest of his future, producing big HR and RBI numbers. Not only does he have that power, but Rupp should also hit for pretty high average. Behind the plate he has a cannon of an arm and his feet work quite well. The only knock is that he pretty routinely throws to the SS side of the bag, but that is quite correctable. Rupp is an adequate receiver, with hands that are soft enough to keep strikes in the zone and steal a few others on the fringe. In terms of the draft, Rupp is one of the premium prospects in the '07 class and will be considered for a very early round selection.
