Ezequiel (Zeke) Balderas is a 2019 C/RHP with a 5-9 209 lb. frame from Ellsworth, IA who attends South Hamilton. Medium frame with broad shoulders and a solid build. Primary catcher with a low, side set stance while receiving the baseball. Gains ground while working out of crouch with smooth paced footwork. Loose, clean exchanges while working through transfer. Released from a compact three-quarters slot producing on line carry to the bag topping at 73 miles per hour, best workout pop time of 2.15. Right handed hitter with an upright, even stance and simple front side trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose, extended path to baseball with a lifted barrel plane through extension. Flashed some strength at contact when on time and squared. Produced some carry off the barrel when creating separation at contact and working to the opposite field gap. Also pitched utilizing a smooth tempo side step delivery. Stays balanced at gather and works to the plate with drop and drive actions. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball showed some downhill plane to the plate in the mid 70's, topped at 76 miles per hour. Curveball had 11/5 shape with loose spin and some depth when staying on top of offering at extension. Worked quickly while on the mound and looked to challenge hitters in the bottom of the strike zone. Good student.
