Edward "Ashton" Evans is a 2019 C/RHP, 3B with a 6-1 200 lb. frame from Wilmington, NC who attends Eugene Ashley. Large frame with broad shoulders and a strong build. Primary catcher with a low, balanced stance while receiving the baseball. Gains ground while working out of crouched with smooth paced, heel click footwork. Loose glove circle and worked through exchange efficiently. Tends to carry weight to glove side while releasing from a three-quarters slot. Throws produced accurate carry to the bag topping at 71 miles per hour, best workout pop time of 2.08. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing smooth paced footwork paired with quick, clean exchanges. Flashed developing arm strength generating accurate, on line carry across the infield at 75 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and high hand set. Shifts into contact well with linear lower half actions. Loose, extended path to contact with a naturally leveraged barrel plane through extension. Swung with intent while creating present bat speed with strength through the zone. Ball jumped off the barrel well when squared while employing a gap to gap approach. Also pitched utilizing a short rock step to leg lift delivery. Stays tall on backside at gather and carries momentum at finish. Hid the baseball well at take back and released from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball flashed some downward plane through the zone with solid life in the upper 70's, topped at 79 miles per hour. Showed good feel for the zone and consistently spotted fastball to each edge of the plate. Also flashed good feel for a straight changeup in the mid 60's. Excellent student.
