Nic Cortez is a 2022 RHP/3B with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Scottsdale, AZ who attends Westwood. Medium frame with a lean build. Projects for additional strength with continued maturity. Primary right handed pitcher with a simple side step to high leg lift delivery. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters slot. Attacked the zone with a fastball offering that flashed some sink with run in the low to mid 70's, topped at 77 miles per hour. Matched arm speed with a breaking ball offering that generated 11/5 shape with solid depth in the upper 60's. Changeup also showed a deceptive arm action with good sink to the bottom of the zone in the low 70's. Consistently repeatable mechanics and located each pitch within the zone. Worked out defensively from the infield showing solid range with athletic lower half actions while traveling to and working through the baseball. Funnels the baseball well and worked through exchange with fluidity. Released from a compact arm slot and created accurate carry across the infield at 74 miles per hour. Right handed hitter with a balanced stance and simple leg lift trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Loose, extended path to contact with a live drive barrel plane. Consistently squared up the baseball on a line while primarily working between the outfield gaps. Good student as well.
