AJ Diaz is a 2024 SS/RHP, 3B, MIF, OF with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Gilbert, AZ who attends Hamilton. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 7.35 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop, moves well on feet up the middle and shows range to either side, positions well behind the ball, soft hands play out front at the ball well, quick transfer with accurate throws across. Also pitched, works exclusively from the stretch, simple delivery with a belt high leg lift, drives off backside well, nice arm speed with effort at release from a three-quarters release point. Worked around the zone well and repeats mechanics, topped out at 82 mph and mixed a curveball in the mid-60s. Righthanded hitter, begins with an even stance and a high hand set and back elbow at the plate; utilizes a hanging leg lift trigger for timing. Loads hands back at start, simple movements into contact with looseness to hands. Works on a linear path, implements some lower half and can utilize more moving forward, easy swing with contact to all fields, nice tools that project well with strength.
