Octavio Soto is a 2022 3B/RHP with a 5-11 170 lb. frame from Salinas, CA who attends Salinas Community. Recorded a 7.32 second sixty yard dash time. Strong and athletic frame. Primary third baseman with smooth movements, works through the back hand well and shows present arm strength. Developing accuracy at present, can improve footwork and the quickness of his transfer and release. Also worked out in the outfield, controlled approach with a long arm action and great carry, recorded throws at 87 mph. Secondary right-handed pitcher that gets down the mound well. Drop and drive delivery. High ¾ arm slot with clean arm path. Creates solid downhill plane. Repeats delivery fairly well but will occasionally lose release point. Fastball sat 77-79 mph with slight armside run. Big downhill plane on offering. Produces a lot of ground balls. Needs to refine command. Fell behind hitters early with armside misses. Worked well when located for strike on inner half. Curveball sat 63-67 mph with big, 12-6 break. Would throw a softer version in upper-50’s. Tends to get loopy when not thrown with velocity. Had bite when thrown well. Obvious ability to spin the baseball. Generated a fair amount of whiffs. Has out pitch potential. Also flashed 69-70 mph changeup with armside run. Used offer sparingly though. The athleticism and pitch movement allows Soto to compete. Refining command will be the key to performing consistently. Right-handed hitter with a quick leg tuck load and fairly short swing. Looks to pull and has present bat speed, shows a downhill bat path and some pop to the pull side when on time and squared. Developing barrel accuracy, will improve with added refinement. Excellent student.
