Matt Johnson is a 2023 RHP/1B with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from Wall, NJ who attends Wall. Recorded a 5.29 second forty-yard dash time. Strong, durable frame with present lower half strength and room to physically mature. Primary right-handed pitcher; sideways start with long rocker step into a belt high leg lift, drop and drive lower half mechanics, and good extension out in front. Fastball worked in the upper-70s for the majority of his outing, topping out at 82 mph from an over-the-top arm slot. Displays good command to both sides of the plate, sinking his fastball to the lower half of the zone. Proficient strike thrower with repeatable mechanics and good pitchability. Mixed in well-tunneled curveball with 12-6 shape and sharp, tight spin to it, flashing the potential for future swing-and-miss offering. Secondary first baseman with good footwork around the bag, quick turns to throw and clean funnel out in front. Recorded arm strength up to 76 mph across the diamond. Left-handed hitter that hits from a well-balanced, open stance with a high hand set, high back elbow and leg lift trigger. Lofted stroke with quickness to his hands, good feel for the barrel and strength through contact. Pull-side approach with legitimate power potential and loud impact, swing translates well into game action. Projectable frame with fundamentally sound skill set, strong hit tool and loads of upside on the mound. Excellent Student.
