2020 California Workout Camp (Sunday)
Ryan Nopper is a 2022 SS/2B, 3B with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Mission Viejo, CA who attends Santa Margarita Catholic HS. Ryan is a gifted athlete who shows commendable and projectable ability on the diamond. In addition to his obvious skills on the diamond, Ryan is also an exemplary student. A primary middle infielder, Ryan's athleticism really takes center stage with a glove on his hand. His first step quickness is outstanding. He reads the ball off the bat well and positions quickly. He plays behind and through the ball with ease and his glove work is pure and very smooth. His short, quick arm stroke get his 80 mph throws away with routine effort. All of his throws show plus carry and consistent accuracy. His defensive game doesn't need much improvement. He just needs to keep working and paying attention to detail. At the plate, Ryan is a switch-hitting, contact first guy. He is obviously a top of the order type hitter who has a plan and a purpose when he walks into the box. There is both strength and quickness in his hands. He strikes the ball equally well from both sides of the plate. He shows a flatter bat path and gets his barrel to and through contact with force. He may have a tick more power from the right side, but his feel for the barrel is outstanding from both sides of the dish. Ryan is unquestionably a next level prospect. There is really nothing he needs to change with his current approach. It is now just a matter of putting in the time. His game is sound and with dedication to the weight room and continued focus on the details, Ryan can not only project to the next level, he can excel when he gets there.
