Chase Smith is a 2022 OF/LHP, 1B with a 5-5 140 lb. frame from Elkhorn, NE who attends Elkhorn. Compact frame with a lean build. Frame projects for additional strength with continued physical maturity. Primary outfielder with clean, fundamentally sound footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Funnels well and worked through exchange quickly. Maintained momentum towards the bag and released from a three-quarters slot. Throws generated softer carry to the bag topping at 67 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with a spread, balanced stance and simple front side trigger. Utilized a linear swing path with a mid-field approach. Displayed some feel for the barrel with developing bat speed through extension. Flashed the ability to throw bat head to contact while turning the barrel to work to pull side. Also pitched showing a small rock step to high leg lift delivery. Stays balanced at gather and created good direction to the plate with lower half. Compact arm circle at take back and released from a high three-quarters slot. Fastball came out of hand cleanly producing occasional downhill plane in the mid to upper 60's, topped at 68 miles per hour. Displayed developing feel for breaking ball offering in the mid 50's. Consistently looked to challenge hitters with fastball offering while working down in the zone. Very good student as well. Tools will continue to develop with maturity and repetition.
