Ryan Merkel is a 2022 RHP/1B/3B with a 6-1 195 lb. frame from Harwood, MD who attends St. Mary's. Tall and strong athletic build. Has a quick arm from a high 3/4's arm slot, works down the mound well with good extension out front. Fastball topped out at 84 mph with good arm side running action at times. Repeated his slot well on his curveball and flashed good depth on the pitch. Will continue to improve as he learns to repeat his delivery more consistently and improve his fastball command. 7.39 runner in the sixty, has good athleticism at the corner infield positions and shows agility and a quick release on his throws. Right handed hitter, hits from a narrow base with a big barrel wrap load and long stride into contact, lots of head movement and length to his swing, has the strength to hit with a shorter approach. Very good student.
