LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Fruitt is a long and lanky 6-5 junior right handed pitcher from Florida. He’s very lean, with narrow shoulders and long limbs. He has a fairly simple, repeatable delivery with a high balanced leg kick and a short arm stroke. Fruitt works quickly and throws strikes, which we like in a young pitcher, and was able to throw 5 innings at the showcase by keeping his pitch count down and getting outs early in counts. Fruitt’s fastball was 78-80 mph and he maintained his velocity well. His fastball would get some hand side run on occasion and at other times he would cut it a bit. Fruitt’s best off speed pitch was a 68 mph change up that had good deception and sink and he also threw a 67-70 mph curveball. Fruitt is the kind of pitcher that is obviously very projectable but that it might take some patience and time to wait for when he’ll develop the strength to bump up his velocity. Fruitt is also a good student.
