Joey Schimick is a 2022 LHP/OF with a 5-8 160 lb. frame from Las Vegas, NV who attends Faith Lutheran. Medium, square shouldered frame with present strength to build, additional room to fill throughout. Ran a 7.87 60-yard dash. Primary lefthanded pitcher, works exclusively out of the stretch with a leg lift below waist; upper body dominant release and can incorporate additional lower half into drive. Short arm action through the back working to a high three-quarters release point. Fastball topped out at 69 mph, low effort release, slight cut action from working across body; curveball shows 2-8 shape, effective when down, some sweep to finish, pitched to contact. Takes short steps to the ball in the outfield, similar release and slot on throws, fields the ball out front, occasionally gets uphill from opening front side early, approaches the ball well. Lefthanded hitter, begins with a spread stance and a high hand set and back elbow in the box; utilizes a patient approach and does a nice job of creating extension out front. Short stride through lower half and can incorporate additional lower half, stays short to the ball and incorporates hands well into swing. Shows strength off of the barrel when turning on the ball, best contact when on a linear plane. Very good student.
