Edgar Nieves is a 2021 C/RHP, IF with a 5-10 165 lb. frame from San Lorenzo, PR who attends Puerto Rico Baseball Academy. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Ran a 7.26 second sixty yard dash. Primary Catcher, sitting down in his legs well as he received the baseball out front. Shows good feel for the position as he is fundamentally sound. Gains ground well on throw downs as he releases from the ear. Recorded a 2.07 second pop time during drills. Secondary Righthanded Pitcher, working into a slight side step and lift to a belt high leg kick. Shorter arm stroke in the back as he goes on to deliver from a three-quarter slot. Good feel for the corners as he showed some pitchability. Confident in his pitches as he went right at hitters. Fastball was up to 74 MPH with a bit of arm side run. Also mixed in a slurvy curveball that he landed for strikes consistently. Also flashed a changeup that showed late movement. Secondary Infielder, staying behind the baseball as he kept it in front. Clean glove actions before working into shuffles during transfer. Whippy arm as he threw it 77 MPH across the diamond during drills. Switch Hitter, From the Right Side, starting from a balanced stance with quiet hands. Inside out type swing as he looks to drive the baseball gap to gap. Found the barrel with some consistency. From the Left Side, similar stance to start. Longer swing path as he also looks to lift the baseball. Proved he can spray the baseball around from this side. Outstanding Student.
