Colby Small is a 2021 SS/RHP with a 5-11 160 lb. frame from Port Orchard, WA who attends Peninsula. Medium frame with broad shoulders and beginnings of strength. Primary outfielder with smooth paced, sound footwork while closing to and working through the baseball. Funnels out front and worked through exchange with fluidity. Released from a three-quarters slot created on line carry to the bag at 80 mph. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing clean footwork. Funnels from a slightly deeper position into belly. Smooth exchange and released from a tighter three-quarters slot, topped at 73 mph. Right handed hitter with an upright, slightly open stance and simple front side trigger. Created some linear shift into contact with lower half. Direct hand path to baseball with a repeatable line drive barrel plane. Consistently worked to the middle of the field but flashed the bat speed to turn the barrel and work to the pull side gap as well. Also pitched utilizing a simple side step to medium leg lift delivery. Worked to the plate with drop and drive lower half actions. Clean arm circle at take back and released from a higher three-quarters arm slot. Fastball came out of hand cleanly generating downhill plne through the zone in the mid to upper 70's, topped at 79 mph. Curveball showed 12/6 shape with tighter spin and occasional sharp depth in the upper 60's. Consistently changed speeds and effectively kept hitters off balance. Good student. Named to the 2019 Northwest Prospect Showcase, Top Prospect List.
