2007 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
Jon Hyland is a 2008 RHP/IF with a 6'2'', 160 lb. frame from Owensboro KY, who attends Owensboro Catholic HS. He has a long limbed, lean build and hasn't begun to get strong yet. Hyland throws from a big high leg raise delivery with lots of moving parts and takes his eyes off the plate during his wind up. Simplifying things could lead to better balance and command. Hylands arm circle is short and quick and he has some wrapping aciton in back that is more pronounced on his curveball. His fastball was regularly 80-81 and he topped out at 84 mph when his mechanics came together. Hyland's curveball lacked velocity at 63 mph but flashed good spin at times. His CB release points were inconsistent. Hyland's change up had good life to it in the zone. He did a good job of mixing up his pitches and competing. Will some delivery adjustments and strength he could come on nicely on the mound. Hyland also took his turns at the plate and showed good hitting mechanics with the ability to stay back on the ball and make solid contact to all fields. He hits through the ball well when it's up and could develop some power as he gets stronger. Hyland is also a good student.
