Carlos “Rocco” Mendez is a 2024 1B/RHP, OF with a 6-3 193 lb. frame from Pembroke Pines, FL who attends Pembroke Pines Charter. Taller frame with a physical build. Ran a 7.70 60-yard dash. Primary first baseman who worked out threw 81 mph across the diamond with throws that were solid across. Two-hand smother and was able to secure the ball. Worked out in the outfield as well, fielding the ball off to the side leading into crow-hops. Throws were at 82 mph from the outfield. A right-handed hitter with a wider base. Starts with the hands high, and back elbow up. Longer swing but gets the barrel to the ball and was able to rotate through contact and work pull-side during his round of BP. Showed off the strength during his round as well, produced an 84 mph exit velocity. Took to the mound as a right-handed pitcher. Had a leg lift above the belt with big tilt over the rubber. Longer arm action through the back on his arm stroke. His fastball was 79-81 mph, reaching back for 83 mph. Spun the fastball up to 2,084 RPMs. Also showed a harder slider at 75 mph with cutter-like traits. Had lateral movement to it and helped keep it off barrels from righties. Punched out two hitters over his inning of work. Excellent student.
