David Shields is a 2025 LHP/1B, OF with a 6-1 180 lb. frame from Pittsburgh, PA who attends Mt Lebanon. He ran a 7.75 second sixty. A primary left-handed pitcher with a large projectable build. One the mound he showed a high ceiling with mature command of both his pitches and the ability to make at bats uncomfortable for both right and left handed hitters. The fastball has good life a the bottom of the zone at 79-83 mph from an extended three-quarters slot. He also showed good feel for the slider in the low 70's landing it consistently on the back foot of right-handed hitters. In the outfield he receives the baseball out front with goo athleticism through the approach into a long easy arm action loading up for the throw topping out at 81 mph. At first base he does a nice job presenting the glove out front with good feel for the actions on the double play feeds as well as his ability to make plays on the move. Switch hitter, from the left side starts open showing a longer loose bat path showing some whip in the barrel impacting the ball well form eh middle of the field to the pull side. On the right side he starts more closed working to the inside part of the ball with a long finish still getting some carry to the pull side. Good student. Verbal commitment to the University of Miami. Selected for the PG Select Baseball Festival.
