2006 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Andrew Taylor is a 2007 C/1B with a 6'1'', 195 lb. frame from Davenport IA, who attends Davenport Central HS. He has a very athletic build that he's worked hard on getting strong. Taylor is an outstanding runner for his size and strength, running 6.63. He's listed as a primary catcher but profiles much better in the outfield. Taylor receives the ball well behind the plate but there is something wrong with his arm now; he looks very uncomfortable throwing the ball and lacks on line arm strength. His speed and his offenisve potential make him potentially more valuable as an outfielder. Taylor played some outfield in the showcase games and played very well, tracking balls aggressively and using his speed and athleticism well. Offensively, Taylor hits from a tall stance with high hands and takes a rip at the ball, showing very good bat speed and some power. He extends though the ball well and drove one ball hard over the right fielder's head that bounced over the fence at the 380 sign. He has the tools to be a multi-dimensional offensive threat at the next level. Where he ends up on defense will be an interesting question. Taylor is also a good student.
