Erik Gavin is a 2008 3B/1B/P with a 6'0'', 190 lb. frame from Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, who attends Parkview Baptist High School. Gavin has a good frame with present strength in his body. Defensively he has good hands at the hot corner showing reactions and instincts to handle the position. He comes through the ball well which helps him produce solid arm strength on his throws across the diamond. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with a rotational swing, and uses a quiet approach. Gavin stays short and compact to the ball making consistent contact. There is strength in his swing, and he shows projectable power. On the mound he throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a long arm action on the back side. He uses a drop and drive delivery and he uses his lower half well. Gavin gets life on his fastball that topped out at 80 mph. He also mixes in a sharp curveball with depth at 69 mph. Gavin is also a good student.
