KC Fall Softball Scouting Combine Afternoon Session
Avery McKinney is a 5'1, class of 2024 OF from Urbandale, IA who attends Urbandale HS. Avery is an up and coming young player with a solid fundament foundation that should allow her to continue to grow her game. She ran a 3.32 20-yard dash with a 1.22 5-yard split. A primary outfielder, Avery shows some twitch and athleticism. She attacks the ball and fields with two hands, infield style, and this action appears to work well for her at this stage in her development. Her glove work is certain and she transitions well. Her 53-mph throws show routine carry and are fairly accurate. Her effort level is off the charts good! At the plate, this RHH has a firm grasp on bunting. With her body type, the short game needs to be prominent in her offensive make-up moving forward so she can take advantage of her emerging speed. She has a balanced stance and a "contact first" mentality. She appears to have a great idea of her offensive abilities. Power is not, and may never be, a part of her hit game. The ability to strike the ball with force and run the bases will be. She needs to play to that strength and it appears she does. She has a flatter bat path and stays inside the ball well. Sound approach! Again, like her effort! Avery, with continued attention to detail, will certainly continue to grow her game. Her energy and effort are palpable. It is very apparent that softball is very important to her! Great appreciation for her "try hard" attitude!
