2006 National Underclass Showcase
Erick Gaylord is a 2008 3B/SS with a 5'10'', 160 lb. frame from Dallas GA, who attends East Paulding HS. He has a short, athletic build, with a high waist and long limbs, along with some present strength. Gaylord was named to the showcase Top Prospect Team. Gaylord is listed as a primary third baseman, but he has the tools to play either of the middle infield positions at the upper levels. He has quick feet to the ball, very good arm strength and very good hands. His release is low and a bit unusual, but it doesn't seem to hurt his arm strength or quickness. Offensively, Gaylord hits from a balanced stance and has a quick, short swing with very good bat speed. Gaylord uses his hands to hit and hits the ball consistently hard up the middle and to the gaps. He's line drive oriented and has a high average approach. Being a 6.80 runner will help him in that area, too. Gaylord is an extremely young 2008 player and has plenty of room to continue to get stronger. He's a very good follow.
