KC Fall Softball Scouting Combine Afternoon Session
Daytonah Downing is a 5'6, class of 2023, 3B/C, OF, UT from Andalusia, IL who attends Rockridge. Daytonah is a poised, skilled, upper class player with a sound fundamental approach to her game, She ran a 3.45 20-yard dash with a 1.19 5-yard split. A primary infielder, Daytonah's actions on the dirt are natural and easy. Her glove is sure and soft and she transitions well. Her powerful arm gets her 57-mph throws on course and to the target with routine effort, Her tosses across the diamond hold their plane and are routinely accurate. Daytonah also took a turn with the gear on. Her catching style plays. She has a taller set up and her movement to receiving is excellent. Her throwing action is consistent and her 51-mph throws are regularly accurate. Her 2.08 pop time was amongst the better times in the combine. At the plate, this RHH has a sound approach to the bunt game. There is noticeable strength in her swing operation. She is twitchy and there is no wasted motion to her swing. She gets to and through contact quickly and there is force in and with her path. The ball jumps off her barrel. There is some emerging power present, too and that should continue to evolve over the course of her next few years in HS and travel ball. Daytonah has a veteran's feel for her game. It is clear that she is comfortable with her style and that style plays well. She is college ready, especially with a bat in her hands. Should she continue to pay attention to detail and add some strength, she will be a definite college prospect. Solid! Promising future!
