KC Fall Softball Scouting Combine Afternoon Session
Lexi Whaley is a 5'7. class of 2024, C, 1B/3B from Fort Madison, IA who attends Fort Madison HS. Lexi is a talented, up and coming player, who is on a path that should lead to college softball. She has notable skill at two positions and can swing the bat with authority. She ran a 3.47 20-yard dash with a 1.18 5-yard split. A primary catcher, Lexi shows a sound set up and presents a low profile at the ready. She receives the ball well. She throws from her knees and shows easy, natural arm strength. Her 53-mph throws are firm and accurate. Her 2.12 pop time is especially elite for her age group. Her catching skills are easily projectable to the next level and are certain to get even better over the course of the next few years of HS and travel ball. Lexi also took a turn on the infield. She plays with an edge. She is tough and played through two tough hops that pegged her pretty good. She didn't flinch and those had to sting. Her actions appear like they will definitely play better on the corners than in the middle of the diamond. She positions well and her glove plays. Her powerful arm screams 3B. Her 60-mph throws have noticeable zip, hold there plane, and are consistently accurate. Big upside as a corner IF prospect. At the plate, this RHH has, first and foremost, a plus bunt game. She may rarely be asked to bunt, but she is adept. She is balanced at the ready. She has any easy load and a quick trigger. Her swing mechanics are smooth and easy and she is direct to contact. She strikes the ball with force. She has easy power as the ball jumps from her barrel. Hit a couple of no-doubters. Lexi, should she keep working to improve her already impressive game, has a chance to play college ball at a fairly high level. Her dedication to improving the smaller details is essential as the big picture is solid. Big upside potential for this young talent!
