2023 Sunshine Atlantic Coast Showcase
Russell (Rusty) Haswell is a 2024 RHP/C/IF with a 5-9 155 lb. frame from Hubert, NC who attends Swansboro High School. Medium current frame with compact musculature and good twitch to his actions. Ran the 60 yard dash in 6.96 seconds. Primary position RHP, using full windup from the 1B side of the rubber. Fluid, loose actions to his operation and is refreshingly athletic on the mound. Leg lift to the belt and turns inwardly with his core to load over the rubber. Breaks into a quick, inline arm path, hiding the ball from the hitter and changes arm angles on all pitches. Presents a ton of variable to the hitter and fills up the strike zone. FB living in the mid-80s and peaking at 86 mph that ran through most hitters. Two distinct breaking balls. CB in the mid-to-upper 60s with tight mostly vertical break. Sweeping SL in the mid-60s that really gave RHHs issues. CH is an option with deadening spin. Just a really tough look for hitters, very few good swings against him. Secondary IF, attacking the ball and sticking his nose on every rep. Good angles and fluid glove work through the ball. Clean and strong arm action here, up to 86 mph across the diamond. RHH with a wide stance and strides even wider, creating solid bat speed. Out front and tight hands, spins off the pitch a bit rushing the barrel to the front. Strong and will be on the barrel more often when in the opposite field gap. Really athletic prospect that can do it all on the field.
