Eric Weiss is a 2008 LHP/OF/1B from McIntosh HS in Peachtreee City , GA, with a 5'10'', 180 lb. frame. He has a solid athletic build and looks like he is well into his physical maturity. Weiss is a polished southpaw for a sophomore, with sound pitching mechanics and an idea how to pitch. His fastball was 78 mph and pretty straight but Weiss spotted it well and used it to set up his curveball. Weiss's curveball was 67 mph with a hard downer break. Hitters took lots of bat swings at Weiss's curveball and it was pretty nasty at times. We didn't see a change up but that would be a nice additional pitch for Weiss. We had Weiss graded out just as well as a position player at first base or in the outfield. He runs very well at 7.17 in the 60 and showed smooth defensive actions and quick feet around the first base bag. Weiss is a left handed hitter who has a calm approach at the plate and nice bat speed. He can turn quickly on inside fastballs and attacks the ball with strong hands. His balance allows him to hit the ball hard to all fields and there is power to come. He could be a nice two-way prospect, perhaps as a left handed specialist out of the bullpen with his curveball. Weiss is also a good student.
