Joseph Rice is a 2021 SS/RHP with a 6-0 175 lb. frame from Asheville, NC who attends Madison County High School, Marshall, NC. Medium frame with broad, athletic build; ran 60 yard dash in 7.54 seconds. Hits from slightly open stance, drifts onto front side a bit when hitting, shifts well into contact, firmer front side at contact will aid in leverage, line drive swing plane, shows ability to impact the ball pull-side. Worked out in the infield, quick first step, sits back a bit on the ball, hands work out front well, moves through with balance, clocked up to 77 mph on throws. Also pitched, good tempo to delivery, small rocker step back, good direction to plate, smaller arm circle through the back to high 3/4 slot, fastball worked 76-80 mph with solid arm side life, shows 12/6 shape to curveball with solid depth, also flashed changeup, good 3-pitch mix. Very good student.
