2021 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event
Griffin Kelly is a 2025 1B/LHP, OF with a 5-10 162 lb. frame from Buffalo Grove, IL who attends Buffalo Grove. Features a solid build with strength present. Showed a lot to like on the mound. Left-handed pitcher. Utilizes an easy, compact delivery with uptempo rhythm. Tall and fall mechanics with a low 3/4 arm slot. Low effort down the mound. The fastball sat 73-77 mph for the majority of the outing. Used it to get ahead of hitters early in counts. Displayed ability to spin a curveball well. Offering sat 62-65 mph. Lands it for strikes often. Has good shape with sharp action. Also showed feel for fading changeup in the mid-60’s. Maintained arm speed to create deception. Has ability to get swings and misses often. Both pitches tunneled well off of the fastball. Young arm with a solid three-pitch mix and time to develop further. Worked out at first base too. Showed solid footwork during workouts. Approaches the ball well. Still developing glove actions. Fairly good carry across the diamond. Drops arm on throws occasionally. Produce more consistent throws during outfield drills. Consistently around the bag. Still developing ability to pulldown out of big crow hop. Charges the ball well. Loses rhythm during approach at times. Left-handed hitter in the box. Utilizes a narrow, upright stance. Coils upper half into load. Slightly hinders timing occasionally. Swings with intent, looking to do damage. Displayed feel for the barrel. Strength helps generate gap to gap power with more there. Ran an 8.34 60-yard dash. Very good student.
