Brandon Payne is a 2024 RHP/OF with a 5-9 190 lb. frame from Milford, CT who attends Joseph A. Foran. Compact, medium frame with present strength throughout. Primary right-handed pitcher that worked from a full windup delivery with an abbreviated leg lift, slight hip coil into balance and shorter stride out to foot strike. Simple, repeatable delivery with some deception due to his shorter arm action; hides the ball effectively and occasional cuts the fastball. Worked in the mid-70s for the majority of his outing, ticking up into the upper 70s at timed and topped out at 78 mph from a compact, high three-quarters arm slot. Strike thrower with developing command, mixed in more traditional shaped breaking ball that varied in shape and flashed gradual depth when thrown with conviction. Will continue to improve with mechanical refinements and additional velocity. Secondary outfielder with a developing defensive skill set. Uses deliberate pace to his actions into the fielding process, fields properly off his front foot and transitions with similar deliberate pace. Recorded arm strength up to 81 mph during drills. Right-handed hitter that hits from a even, crouched stance with a high, tight hand set and toe-tap trigger. Incorporates pushed hand loading mechanism and rotational lower half movements to get the swing going. Intent based swing with developing feel for the barrel and some impact when on-time. Mostly pullside contact with some gap-to-gap power potential, will continue to improve with proper swing adjustments. Strong, physical prospect with some upside remaining on both sides of the baseball. Excellent Student.
