2020 California Workout Camp (Saturday)
Sam Purgason is a 2022 3B/RHP, 1B with a 6-6 210 lb. frame from Truckee, CA who attends Tahoe Truckee. Large and lengthy build with room to still strengthen as he continues to develop. Primary infielder, fields out in front and shows good athleticism for his size. Still understanding how to use the present length in his frame. Solid arm across the diamond, was gunned at 86 mph in the infield workouts. On the mound, has a longer arm action from a high three-quarters slot. Totem pole type of separation that reaches straight back into his flex T. Methodical to start his motion then speeds up after the lift. Fastball sits 83-86 mph, his present length helps his fastball to play up. 11-to-5 shaped curveball slides across the plate and showcases good depth. Mixes in a 76 mph straight change. Throws it with good conviction. At the plate, uses an upright and wide stance with a low stride trigger. Good pop to all fields, will only continue to improve. Collapses backside slightly creating an elevated barrel plane. At his best when working though the middle of the field. Excellent student in the classroom as well.
