Maxwell Layne is a 2023 OF/RHP, UT with a 5-10 160 lb. frame from Columbus, OH who attends Upper Arlington. Medium frame with slender, athletic build; ran 60 yard dash in 7.06 seconds. Hits from slightly open stance, clean load in hands, shorter swing with good balance, extends okay through contact, linear path with whole-field approach, can turn on velocity. Worked out in the outfield, closes on the ball aggressively, breaks down well with balance, exaggerated crow hop into throws, clocked up to 80 mph. Also pitched, short stride downhill with compact arm stroke to 3/4 slot, fastball worked 78-80 mph with flashes of sink, showed slow curveball with 11/5 shape. Very good student.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
