2020 Fall Midwest Workout Showcase
Tate Johnson is a 2024 1B/3B with a 6-0 200 lb. frame from Des Moines, IA who attends Valley. Large frame with broad shoulders and beginning of strength. Primary first baseman with clean footwork while surrounding the baseball and working around the bag. Funnels out front and worked through exchange efficiently. Showed quick, sound footwork while turning double plays as well. Released from a three-quarters slot producing accurate throws to the bag at 69 mph. Also worked out defensively from the infield showing similar clean footwork while working to and through the baseball. Fluid glove actions while funneling out front and worked through exchange well. Released from a three-quarters slot topping at 68 mph. Right handed hitter with a spread, even stance and high back elbow set. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Displayed good balance while working through the zone with a linear barrel plane. Aggressive threw the barrel head to contact while employing a mid field approach. Flashed some jump with carry off the barrel to the gaps when squared. Good student as well.
