2021 WWBA Workout Showcase (Oct. 6)
Derek Gonzales is a 2023 OF/C with a 6-0 200 lb. frame from Costa Mesa, CA who attends Mater Dei. Strong physical build. Right handed hitter, hits from a wide base with a back tap trigger and rock in load, tight hands to start his swing, stays short with a line drive swing plane, gets good jump off the barrel when he gets out front on time, can improve his consistency in his timing. 7.01 runner in the sixty. Primary outfielder on defense, fields the ball close to his body, upper body thrower with good raw arm strength, can further develop his arm strength with more lower half use and momentum through his throws. Has also caught in the past but did not work out behind the plate at this event. Good student.
