2020 California Workout Camp (Sunday)
Luke Johnson is a 2023 2B/RHP, 3B, OF with a 6-0 180 lb. frame from Coto De Caza, CA who attends Santa Margarita Catholic HS. Luke is an athletic player with quick actions and a solid athletic ability that projects to the next level. He is also an exemplary student. He ran a 7.30 60 yard dash. A primary second baseman, Luke is a natural on the dirt. He looks very confident and assured. There is an easy rhythm to his game that begins with his soft and quick feet. His glove work is pure and his 81 mph throws show plus arm strength. His tosses across the diamond hold their plane and are dead on accurate. Luke also took a turn in the outfield. Although he isn't quite as polished there, he still shows sound ability. His glove work is routine and his powerful 82 mph throws show carry and consistent accuracy. Although his defensive future is definitely on the infield, Luke could play in the outfield if needed. Luke also shows sound ability at the plate. He has a clue with a bat in his hands. His operation is very simple. He is quiet and efficient. He loads and triggers quickly and with force. He can strike the baseball. His flatter path produces more line drives, but he does show the ability to power the baseball. Sound approach by an advanced player. There is a lot to like about Luke's overall game. He has a great feel for his ability and plays with a directed passion not seen in too many players. He "gets it" and is sure to get even better over his next three years at the high school level. Big upside for this young and emerging player.
