Axel Cantu is a 2025 OF/1B/3B with a 5-4 122 lb. frame from Pharr, TX who attends Psja North. Smaller build was mostly fundamental with some young tendencies across his present tools, has plenty of time to fill out the frame and advance his skills as he progresses. Primary outfielder, he showed limited range with the footwork with a soft approach that does not build much momentum through the ball. He makes the glove work and shows some uphill throws. Releases the ball at a lower slot leaving some arm to lag and staying under the ball. Will be much more effective as he builds the athleticism and starts generating some force with the legs. In the infield, he looks a bit more natural and comfortable flashing some short bursts side to side and showing soft hands. There is some present glove skill there as well, but similar to the OF he does not have much intent to play downhill and follow through his throws. He shows potential to make leaps of progress on the defensive side with the footwork alone and the strength development ahead of him will certainly impact his game. At the plate the right handed hitter starts with an even stance with a high hand set and uses a leg lift trigger that shows some feel for timing, the swing is loose and does not show a real source force behind it. Swing path was flat through the zone but could connect, he tagged a few line drives working middle of the field. There are some strength gaps that should fill themselves out as he develops physically, much more to show ahead of him.
