KC Fall Softball Scouting Combine Afternoon Session
Addi Downe is a 5'5, class of 2024, RHP/1B/OF from Norwalk, IA who attends Norwalk HS. Addi is a rising star who has a complete game and shows promising ability at more than one position. She ran an highly impressive 3.17 20-yard dash with a 1.05 5-yard split that was one of the top burst speeds in camp. A primary RHP, Addi shows plus projectable stuff, especially for a pitcher so early in her career. She is a strike thrower, first and foremost. Her mechanical operation is clean and her arm works. She uses her lower half well to help generate power and spin. Her fastball is a solid command and control pitch that she works to both sides of the plate. It shows consistent sneaky fast zip. Her change-up leaves her hand well and has plus spin and a down component late. She has a clue and her levers work well with this two-pitch combination. Her rise ball and drop ball combo work in harmony, too. Her rise has solid jump, especially when she extends and finishes. Big jump. Her drop, while not big from a velo standpoint, has plus spin and has heavy bite late. Great two pitch pairing. Addi has a great idea in the circle! She also took a turn in the outfield where her obvious athleticism plays extremely well. She shows quick and easy footwork and positions confidently. She plays through the fielding action with gathering momentum and makes a quicker, but very routine transition. She cuts her throws loose, Her 51-mph velocity plays up and her throws are firm, hold their plane and are highly accurate. Very capable in the OF. Big projectable future here. Addi truly shines with a bat in her hands. She is an accomplished bunter and with her speed, this should be a big part of her offense moving forward. She has a great approach for a younger hitter. She is balanced at the ready and is short, quick, and direct to the ball. She is a line driver with a flatter path but can also drive the ball with authority and shows an emerging power component that should only get better. Addi has a great understanding of her swing. Solid upside future! Addi has a mature approach to an already impressive set of skills. And, she is only a HS sophomore. Should she stay the course, pay attention to detail, and work in the weight room to improve her strength, she will unquestionably have the opportunity to play at the collegiate level. High ceiling! Big promise! Bright future!
