Matthew Govea is a 2023 3B/RHP with a 5-9 160 lb. frame from Spring, TX who attends Klein Collins. Medium, square shouldered frame with some present strength throughout and additional room to fill. Ran a 7.80 60-yard dash. Primary third baseman, deliberate tempo to actions, plays low behind the ball well with nice present glove skills, higher release on throws across the diamond but maintains nice direction coming through the ball, arm strength and carry should continue to develop. Also pitched, simple operation on the bump, gathers onto back side well before coming down the slope, similar high three-quarters release; fastball topped out at 75 mph, mostly true through the zone with occasional life when on time and working to the lower third of the strike zone. Mixed a curveball with 11-5 shape, tends to slow arm on its release, up to 61 mph with the pitch. Right-handed hitter, begins with an even base and barrel wrap at start of swing; swings with intent and stays tight with movements while showing nice present hand speed in swing. Worked the middle of the field with comfort but showed ability to work to all fields, consistent feel for the barrel, has some timing components to operation. Excellent student.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
