2004 National Academic Showcase
Daniel Barr is a solidly built 5'10", 2005 third baseman from Arlington, TX, who swung one of the best bats at the Showcase during game competition. He crushed one ball over the centerfielder’s head, knocked another ball off the left field fence and drove the right fielder way back in another at bat. So, in addition to knowing that he has some good power potential, we also see that he can drive it to all fields with the wood bat, which is good to see in a young hitter. Barr has a rather complicated approach at the plate, with a big leg kick timing mechanism and a similar hand hitch, but everything comes together pretty well for him. He has a definite upper cut in his swing, which benefits him when he makes solid contact. Defensively, Barr has playable tools at third base. We liked the way that Barr conducted himself off the field, too. He showed some leadership skills and played the game hard. Daniel is a very good student.
