Philip Edwards is a 2008 RHP/3B with a 6'2'', 162 lb. frame from Coral Springs FL, who attends Douglas HS. He has a long lean build and should get stronger. Edwards throws from a balanced, quick tempoed delivery and his arm action is short in back and long in front. Edwards doesn't have much effort on release and does a good job throwing strikes and locating his pitches. He looks like he's in command on the mound. His fastball topped out at 82 mph and was pretty straight. His curveball was 65 mph with an 11/5 type of break. Edwards fielded his position well and showed good athleticism. We didn'd see a change up. Edwards also plays some third base. He had a good balanced hitting set up, much like his pitching, but didn't have the strength to generate consistent bat speed. He pulled some balls well into the LCF gap in batting practice and had some lift in his swing that could develop with more strength. Edwards is also a good student.
