2004 National Underclass Dec 28-30
Monteagudo is a 5-8 switch hitting middle infielder from Miami. This junior has some very advanced baseball skills on both sides of the ball and has a mature, well proportioned body that has some present strength. He’s a 7.04 runner in the 60 who shows good first step quickness and range in the field. He threw 77 mph across the diamond and while he’s a primary second baseman, Monteagudo has the actions and release to play shortstop as well. Unlike most switch hitters, we didn’t detect any real difference between Monteagudo’s approach, swing and bat speed from either side of the plate. He’s a polished hitter with the ability to stay back on the breaking ball and keep his swing short and crisp. Monteagudo even showed some gap power. He should be a high average top of the order hitter at the college level. Good college prospect.
