John Smith is a 2023 LHP/OF with a 6-2 180 lb. frame from Parsonsburg, MD who attends Parkside. Recorded a 7.81-second sixty time. High-waisted, large, slender frame with plenty of projection remaining as he matures physically. Primary left-handed pitcher, worked exclusively from the stretch with easy drop and drove lower half mechanics. Deceptive 3/4 slot with shorter arm swing. Fastball showed late life through the zone, working in on right-handed hitters. Sat 77-80, topping out at 81 mph. Filled the zone with his heater, mixing in breaking ball with late, sharp break that he could throw more often to keep hitters off balance. Secondary outfielder, aggressive approach to the ball, fielding off to the side, carrying his momentum through the ball well. Had some bounce in his step with looseness to his arm action, up to 82 mph on his throws to the bases with carry. Left-handed hitter, slightly open stance with a high-hand set. Lofted stroke with present quickness to his hands. Flashed the ability to elevate the ball to the pull side, showing some feel for the barrel. Tended to get mistimed for a few swings, getting his foot down late with his hover trigger. Good student. Named to 2021 Fall East Coast Top Prospect List.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
