2007 National Showcase
Aaron Hicks is a 2008 OF/P with a 6'1'', 160 lb. frame from Long Beach, CA who attends Wilson HS. He has a greyhound body with lean, long features and tons of projection. Quite simply, Hicks has all the tools. He's a 6.45 runner who has both a long, easy stride in the outfield and a quick first step stealing bases. Hicks' arm strength is almost silly; we don't believe he was completely healthy at the showcase with stiffness behind his shoulder but he still threw 97 mph from the outfield (!!) and 95 from the mound with an 83 mph curveball. Hicks is a switch-hitter who looks to be pretty balanced as far as bat speed and approach is concerned from both sides of the plate. He's an aggressive hitter who takes a full cut at the ball and shows plus bat speed. If anything, Hicks might have to cut down his length/aggressiveness in his swing. There is no "hit the ball on the ground and run" to Hicks' approach, he's trying to crush the ball and has the tools to do it. It's a testament to Hicks' tools and ceiling as an outfielder that his 95/83 mph pitching ability is an afterthought. He's a first round type talent on both sides of the ball and that doesn't happen too often. A true 5-tool player. Selected to 2007 Aflac All-American team.
