2020-2021 League Rules

Version 1

  1. Pitching Machine and Pitching Machine Distance
    • 1.1- Pitching machines must be set at a minimum distance of 45ft from home plate to pitching machine. Maximum distance of 60ft 6 in.
    • 1.2- Pitching machines must have the ability to throw between 50-87mph. (Depends on distance. Speed parameters will be released with pitch speed chart at a later date).
    • 1.3- A back up machine is not required but recommend for any malfunction of primary pitching machine.
    • 1.4- Self-feeding machines and manual feed machines are both legal
    • 1.5- All facilities with a distance shorter than 60ft 6in will be required to find the equivalent pitch speed to that of the 60ft 6 in facilities.

    Example:

    Facility at 60ft 6in throwing a 75 mph has no adjustments to make.

    Facility at 45ft must find equivalent pitch speed: 75mph (desired speed from 60ft 6in) x 45 (distance at which your machine is placed) / 60.5 (60ft 6in) = 62mph

    • 1.6- All pitches will be fastballs for the Perfect Game National Indoor League. All weekly pitch speeds will be posted on perfectgame.org

       

  2. Machine Calibration
    • 2.1- The Hit Trax machine must go through the wanding calibration once a week with exceptional feedback to ensure best results.
    • 2.2- Ground plane and ground plane measurements must be taken on the day of league games.
    • 2.3- Hit Trax and Plate (Or Hitting mat) edges must be marked after calibration measurements are completed. This will allow for the machine or plate to be reset very quickly if moved during the course of game play.

       

  3. Bats and Helmets
    • 3.1- 12U and 14U divisions will use aluminum/composite bats, 16U and 18U must use a wood or wood composite bat during league play.
    • 3.2- All 12U and 14U bats must be a qualified BBCOR/USSSA/USA bat.
      • 3.2-1.12U/14U may use a wood or wood composite bat if they wish.
    • 3.3- All 16U and 18U wood or wood composite bat weights must be no more than -3oz of bat length.
    • 3.4- All helmets worn by players during league must be without significant wear and tear.
    • 3.5- All bats and helmets must be checked by a facility staff member prior to start of game to insure all equipment is legal and safe (Legal bats, no cracks in bats/helmets).
    • 3.6- 12U -8 Metal Bats
    • 3.7- 14U -5  Metal Bats
    • 3.8- 16U -3 Wood Bats
    • 3.9- 18U -3 Wood Bats

       

  4. Baseballs
    • 4.1- All pitching machines are required to use real baseballs or cevlar seamed baseballs during league play.
      • 4.1-1.Dimpled machine baseballs are NOT allowed for league play.
    • 4.2- Any baseballs with torn laces, cut leather etc. must be thrown out of play.

       

  5. League Rosters
    • 5.1- All team sizes for every age group will range from 3-5 players.
    • 5.2- Players are allowed to move up in age groups to compete, but may not play any lower than current age.
    • 5.3- All players must be present at start of designated game time to play.
      • 5.3-1.Players who arrive late to a game will not be reinserted back into the lineup until the players next scheduled game.

         

  6. Substitutions
    • 6.1- If a player is unable to continue league play for the remainder of a session due to injury or any other conflict, a legal substitute may be added to the roster prior to week 5 of regular season play. There will be NO refunds. Sub may be added to roster to replace player at no cost.
      • 6.1-1.Legal substitutes must fit within age division.
    • 6.2- Teams may not add substitutes after week 5 of regular season play. An exception will be made for teams who cannot field a legal team due to a lost player.
      • 6.2-1.Substitute must be approved by Perfect Game.

         

  7. Age Divisions
    • 7.1- Divisions will be broken up by graduation year.

      18U- 2021 and 2022 Grad

      16U- 2023 and 2024 Grad

      14U- 2025 and 2026 Grad

      12U- 2027 and 2028 Grad and Under

       

    • 7.2- College aged players are prohibited from participation.

       

  8. National Indoor League Schedule Format
    • 8.1- Each session will consist of 12 regular season games, spanning 6 weeks. 1-2 weeks of playoffs.
    • 8.2- Perfect Game staff will communicate and schedule Regional and National Playoffs between all facilities participating.

     

    Schedule (Session I):

            Regular Season: Saturday October 31st - Thursday December 10th

            Playoffs: Saturday, December 12th - Sunday, December 13th

     

             

     

     

  9. Facility Scheduling
    • 9.1- Each facility will create a schedule that works within their own facility schedule needs.
      • 9.1-1.Only restriction is teams must get their twelve games scheduled during the 6 week league time window.
      • 9.1-2.Playoff Schedule will be made by PG Staff and all facilities must play games at scheduled time.

         

  10. Teams Advancing to Regional/National Playoffs
    • 10.1-Each facility will have a set # of teams from each age group advance to the Regional Tournament (Midwest, South, East or West). Regional Playoffs will be single elimination bracket play.
    • 10.2-Each region will be represented by one team from each age group to represent said region in the National Playoffs. National Playoffs will be single elimination bracket play.
    • 10.3-Tie breakers for advancing teams and seeding of regional and national playoffs will be as follows: 1) overall win/loss record 2) head to head record 3) team runs scored per game 4) coin flip.

       

  11. Game Lengths/ Duration
    • 11.1-Games shall be 7 innings or no new inning after 30 minutes.
      • 11.1-1.Once a new inning begins, it must be finished.
    • 11.2-7 inning games for all regional and national playoffs, no time limit.
    • 11.3-No mercy rules except in playoff
    • 11.4-All game times are approximate
      • 11.4-1.Any player not present at start of game time may not be reinserted back into lineup until next scheduled game.

         

  12. Machine Misreads/ Oddities
    • 12.1-All batted balls must be a clean and accurate read/result.
      • 12.1-1.Any batted ball that does not register will be replayed as if last pitch did not take place.
    • 12.2-Any batted ball in which machine reads bat instead of ball, result must be replayed.
    • 12.3-Facility staff member is responsible for play modifications made on desktop to ensure the most accurate statistics (Balls/Strikes, remove last event etc.).
    • 12.4-All results hits/outs and balls/strikes are final. Only host staff members may later results based on appropriate scenarios.

       

  13. Dress Code & Equipment
    • 13.1-All players must be properly equipped with league helmet and bat.
      • 13.1-1.Helmets must be without cracks and bat must fit within age group specifications.
    • 13.2-Player shoes must follow host facility policy.
    • 13.3-Play may not wear attire with any kind of profanity.
      • 13.3-1.If player does not have an alternate shirt, player will not be able to compete in game.
  14. Batting Order
    • 14.1-Batting order most be set prior to start of any game.
    • 14.2-Any hitter who bats out of order will be declared out and any result will be removed and the out applied.
      • 14.2-1.Batter 1st pitch will constitute as an at-bat.
    • 14.3-If a player is injured during play and may not continue, or if player is not present for game and drops the team below the minimum 3 player roster, an out will be recorded each time the hitter is due up. (maximum of 1 out per batter, per inning)
      • 14.3-1.If team is 2 players under minimum, an out will be recorded for each of the missing team members. This process will continue further for each player not present.

         

  15. Broken Bats
    • 15.1-Perfect Game and host facility are not responsible for any broken bats or any other broken player equipment.
    • 15.2-Host facilities may provide bats to players, but not required.

       

  16. Hit Trax Defensive Difficulties
    • 16.1-18u and 16u age divisions- High School.

                     14u age division- 15u defensive setting.

                     12u age division- 13u defensive setting.

       

  17. Game Play
    • 17.1-There will be no walks allowed in the indoor league. Swing the bat!
